ABL: Beermen take 2-1 lead over Slammers

MANILA, Philippines — Fresh off their blowout win in Game 2, the San Miguel Beermen, this time needed to hold off the Sports Rev Thailand Slammers to pick up a 70-62 road win Tuesday night for a pivotal 2-1 edge in their Asean Basketball League (ABL) best-of-five semifinals duel.

The Beermen, who rebounded from their stunning 60-62 setback in Game 1 at home, drew a throwback performance from 40-year-old Asi Taulava.

Taulava finished with 13 points and six rebounds to back up import Brian Williams, who had 14 points and seven rebounds.

San Miguel got off to a blistering start and led 44-26 at the half before Thailand got it going in the second half — countering with a 14-1 run as the Slammers kept it close from that point on.

Christien Charles led Thailand, which got whipped, 60-91, last Saturday, with 17 points and 10 rebounds.

Game 4 is set on Thursday still at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok.
