Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0: New kid on the Cherry Mobile quad-core block

New Cherry Mobile Android devices are quietly hitting stores nationwide—and they're all packing quad-core performance. You have the Cherry Mobile Flame 2.0 and the Cherry Mobile SkyFire 2.0, on sale for P6,999 and P7,999, respectively. Now, here comes the newest kid on the block, the Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0.

With an P8,999 price tag, the third in the Omega series has reportedly already made its way to select retailers. That's barely two months since the release of its predecessor, the P7,999 Omega HD.

Judging from the images we've seen, the Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0 should be superficially similar to its forebear (as seen above), except it has a lot more firepower in tow.

The latest addition to the company's smartphone lineup features a quad-core chip (possibly a MediaTek MT6589), a 1.2GHz CPU, PowerVR SGX544 graphics, and 1GB of RAM.

Internal storage is listed as 4GB, but it can be expanded via a microSD slot that accepts up to 32GB cards.

Powering the phone is a 2,100mAh battery, which is on a par with the previous-gen Omega HD's. It also features a 5-inch, high-res 720 x 1,280 IPS-LCD display smothered in scratch-resistant Dragontrail glass.

A logical upgrade over its older sibling, the Cherry Mobile Omega HD 2.0 runs Android Jelly Bean and has a similar set of cameras: a 12-megapixel rear shooter with LED flash and a 2-megapixel front-facer. Both benefit from backside-illumination technology, commonly referred to as BSI, which is supposed to let the camera sensor capture more light to improve low-light performance.

Hopefully, we'll be able to get our hands on a unit soon, so we can squeeze out a full review.
